Given the impact of the pandemic on income and business activities, the Federal Government of Nigeria responded to the urgent need for economic recovery by approving a COVID-19 stimulus budget.
In light of this, the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development (FMYSD) has sought to tap from this fund for the express purpose of Human Capacity Training and Development, which in return has the potential to boost future income/profit and economic activities in general through impacting youths with the required digital skills needed in the 21st-century workplace. This training serves to equip participants both for the corporate world of work and for entrepreneurship.
Every successful participant of these trainings is expected to be fully equipped with the skills to make a better living either as employees or as self-employed entrepreneurs and employers of labour. The support received will aid them in setting up small-scale enterprises, which have the potential to grow bigger over time.
The three (3) empowerment programs are:
- Green stimulus
The Green Stimulus is a part of the Economic Sustainability Programme, implemented under the initiative of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development in Nigeria. This programme is designed to develop a new breed of trained technicians with basic and advanced knowledge in renewable energy and smart agriculture.
The renewable energy component will focus on solar energy development, management, and implementation, while the smart agriculture component will focus on improving agricultural yield and leveraging drone technology to improve Agribusiness.
The Green Stimulus Programme will train and empower 300 youths across the six geopolitical zones through an online access guaranteed and fully paid training.
- Digital youths The Digital Youth Nigeria programme is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development. This programme is designed to avail eligible Nigerian youths that will participate in standard training sessions to learn several global digital roles, including Business Process Outsourcing skills, Software and Coding skills, Animation/Graphics skills and Internet of Things/IT Hardware skills. These highly practical skill-sets will develop their abilities to handle jobs which have a need for the outsourcing of specific digital services.This programme is designed to support 1,600 youths successfully screened from across the six geopolitical zones including Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory through fully paid in-person and virtual training sessions.
- work experience TheWork Experience Program is one the series of economy sustainability projects being implemented as an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development in Nigeria.
Recently a clinical study and analysis of various surveys on the Nigerian youth, with respect to employability skills, was carried out alongside series of one-to-one interactions. In reaching a conclusion, it was established that one of the challenges of unemployment is the acute absence of practical workplace skills and experience.
In order to bridge this gap, the Ministry has initiated the Work Experience Program (WEP) to ensure that young people acquire a level of experience and hone their employability skills, to make them suitable for employment and to acquire the required skills for self-development and crucial to thriving in the 21st Century world of work. These skills include Mentoring, Networking, how to gain Scholarships, knowledge of world Competitions, Employment, Training and Business Startups.
The Work Experience Program (WEP) initiative is a three-month internship programme that will provide participants with the opportunity to gain relevant firsthand knowledge, develop skills and workplace competencies that will greatly increase their potentials for a successful employment.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this training programme, candidates must:
- be a Nigerian citizen between the ages of 18 to 35 years
- possess a valid government-issued means of identification
- willing to undertake some travel if selected and the physical training location is not in their state of residence
- be a graduate of tertiary institution (BSc/HND)
